The Death of a Rentier
E. H. Carr
Chapter Chapter 34 in Michael Bakunin, 1975, pp 476-488 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The friendly reception and calm atmosphere of Lugano were balm to Bakunin’s wounded spirit. His natural buoyancy at once revived. Two days after his return, his wit was keen enough to head a letter to Bellerio with a self-mocking quotation from Béranger: Me revoilà, peuple fidèle, Qui m’avez donné mon congé, Pardon, si la goutte cruelle M’ôte le peu d’esprit que j’ai.
