Abstract: Abstract An agreement was initialled in Brussels on 30 March 1961 whereby Greece became associated with the European Economic Community in a customs union, with provision for her to become a full member of the E.E.C. when her economic progress permitted. The agreement became effective on 1 November 1962. It was planned that Greece should become a full member of the E.E.C. by 1984 but from 1967 until 1975 all progress towards this goal was halted by the Six. This action has also resulted in a standstill in harmonisation of agricultural policies and in the restructuring of industry which was dependent on loans from European Investment Bank.
