Abstract: Abstract The strategies for agricultural and industrial development in the immediate post-war period in Taiwan were closely linked to facilitate the transformation from an agricultural to an industrial-based economy. Policy sequence and proper timing were crucial. In this period the policies that guided agricultural development resulted in a rapid growth in agricultural production and enhanced the contribution of agriculture to industrial growth in the initial stages. An analysis indicates that the contribution of the agricultural sector to industrial development has been substantial.
