Abstract: Abstract The theoretical case for housing subsidy obtains pragmatic meaning for policy only if the subsidized dwellings produce social and personal benefits over and above those resulting from the operation of the market. As the previous chapter indicated, there is no clear, demonstrable evidence to that effect.
