Chapter 1 in Europe and Money, 1977, pp 11-22 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Europe’s painful moves towards economic and monetary integration are encouraging Europeans to look back to the nineteenth century and to the period immediately preceding the First World War in an attempt to find solutions to present problems. Whether or not we shall find remedies for present ills is not the only reason for examining this period. Without such an examination it would be very difficult for us to understand our present state of economic development and the different attitudes towards economic and monetary integration.
