Abstract The discussion of the trade cycle, and the economic problems it created, entered a different phase during the interwar period. Economists began to examine fluctuation in terms of the relationship between saving and investment; this is perhaps best illustrated by the contents of Robertson’s Banking and Keynes’ Treatise.1
