Chapter 8 in The Economic and Political Development of the Sudan, 1977, pp 125-140 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract With close to two decades of political independence behind it, the Sudan has achieved much in the way of development progress despite significant obstacles and constraints. In that twenty-year period population has advanced by close to 75 per cent, the standard of living has improved for a significant part of the rural population, and urban areas have grown and prospered. Economic structure has shifted in the direction of increased industrial output, a more diversified export base, and relatively less dependence on traditional agriculture.
