Abstract: Abstract The term management information system is linked in most peoples minds inexorably with computers. This link is understandable as the vast majority of current literature on management information systems concerns itself exclusively with computer based systems. It is not, of course, necessary to use computers when developing information systems, but they do have their place, as we shall see later. For the moment I shall use a definition which allows us to look beyond the limited field of computer based systems.
