A chapter in Accounting Control and Financial Strategy, 1979, pp 89-94 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This case illustrates the operation of a standard costing system in a manufacturing company. The distinctive value of the case is as an exposition of (a) how standard costs are compiled and used, and (b) how costing systems contribute to financial control. Because the case is illustrative and yet stimulates discussion, it has been found to be especially valuable to those with little previous experience of either the practice of financial control, or its theory — in particular postgraduate business students and those who have been ‘on the receiving end’, such as line managers or engineers.
