The Role of Planning and ‘Automatism’

Ljubo Sirc

Chapter 2 in The Yugoslav Economy under Self-Management, 1979, pp 13-25 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract As late as January 1950, the Conclusions of the CC of the CPY on the Current Tasks in the Struggle for the Five-Year Plan (K 50, p. 8) seemed to claim that the main targets were being successfully implemented despite the blockade and other pressure from the East. There was a hint that all was not well in agriculture since inadequate organisational and political preparations for State purchases and the establishment of further production cooperatives were mentioned, but these were blamed, as always, on the lowest echelons.
