Financial Institutions and Markets in Thailand

Chapter 6 in Financial Institutions and Markets in Southeast Asia, 1984, pp 296-378 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The Kingdom of Thailand consists of territory of some 514000 square kilometres and borders Burma to the north and west, Laos to the north and east, and Kampuchea and Malaysia respectively to the southeast and southwest. Though strategically located in terms of South East Asia, it is positioned near a number of insurgent actions (along the Burma, Malaysian, and Lao borders, and of course the Kampuchea conflict). In addition to the uncertainty and damage these events cause within Thailand, they have also produced a substantial resettlement problem with Kampuchean and Lao refugee camps located in the eastern half of the country.
