Chapter 5 in The Measurement of Capital, 1979, pp 133-158 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract There has been considerable discussion particularly in the theoretical literature concerning the concept of the stock of capital, and, in particular, doubts have been expressed about the validity of attempts to measure capital. Nevertheless, much use is made in empirical work in various areas of estimates of capital stock in industry. The aim of the present paper is not to enter into the controversy but to present estimates of the stock of capital in UK manufacturing industries in more detail than has been available previously.
