Chapter 1 in Hyper-growth in Asian Economies, 1979, pp 1-5 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Considerable work has been done in the past two decades to analyse the growth experience of many developed countries. For instance, attempts have been made to analyse the pattern of long-term economic growth of the now developed nations,1 and there are other studies which deal with fewer countries or a single country in greater depth on certain specific issues and within a shorter time span.2 These studies, different from the work on economic history, are not devoted to a pure description of facts but mainly to the explanation of propositions concerning the process of growth and development.
