Simple Spatial Choice Models
Roger Vickerman
Chapter 3 in Spatial Economic Behaviour, 1980, pp 30-68 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Building on the theoretical background of Chapter 2 we are now in a position to develop some simple models of choice. In so doing we shall in effect be providing a review of many of the models of spatial behaviour which have been used in the past. These models relate to decisions taken in a world of perfect competition and certainty and where there is no cost of acquiring information. Also we are assuming that neither the actions of a decision-maker nor those of any other individual can influence price in any market. These restrictions are obviously unrealistic but are essential if we are to make progress in understanding the working of a spatial economy. In later chapters we shall introduce relaxations of these assumptions to produce greater realism.
