Abstract:
Abstract In this paper I want both to reflect on broadcasting and its place in society and culture and to stimulate argument. I want to reach back behind the topicalities of contemporary broadcasting to a number of fundamental issues relating to the role of authority both in broadcasting and in society and the way in which it is changing. My reflections fall naturally under four headings.
