Abstract:
Abstract It is possible to identify several U.S. industries that were particularly suited to foreign direct investors and these are discussed individually in Sections 4.2–4.16. Section 4.15, which deals with the railway industry, is included not because it was the location of very much direct investment, but because of its unique importance. Although overall investment in the railway industry dwarfed all other areas of investment, relatively little direct investment in railroads took place, as will be seen in Section 4.15. In these industry sections as many companies as possible are named in order to give an idea of the numbers involved.
