Monetarism in the United Kingdom

A chapter in Monetarism in the United Kingdom, 1984, pp 3-12 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The purpose of the conference of which this volume collects the papers and discussion was not to debate yet again the meaning of ‘monetarism’ — that has been done many times, most thoroughly in Mayer (1978). Nor was it to contrast, in spurious combat, ‘monetarism’ and ‘Keynesianism’ as competing ideologies. Such practice was described, perhaps over-temperately, by Harry Johnson, as ‘misleadingly oversimplified’ (Johnson, p. 120. in Mayer, 1978).
