Chapter 15 in Independent Television in Britain, 1989, pp 243-260 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The Report of the Committee on the Future of Broadcasting (Chairman: Lord Annan)1 was presented to parliament on 23 March 1977 and published the following day. Give or take a week or two, the committee had met its two-and-a-half-year deadline. It presented, in 522 pages, the findings of the most thorough investigation ever undertaken into British broadcasting, and made 174 recommendations. No one could question the conscientiousness, industry and dedication with which the committee’s members had reacted to the high level of public interest in their work.
