Abstract: Abstract The British nuclear power industry dates from the Second World War. Britain has developed an expertise which promises a continuing share in the growing world fuel cycle market. Its performance in developing commercially feasible nuclear reactor technology has been less satisfactory. Although large resources of finance and manpower have been poured into R&D on indigenous reactor technology, and into large commercial nuclear programmes, Britain still lacks a proven reactor design which can reliably supply home and export markets.
