The International Capital Market and the International Monetary System
Erik Hoffmeyer
Chapter 13 in Money and the Economy: Central Bankers’ Views, 1987, pp 245-261 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract In this chapter I shall discuss three main problems. The first concerns the breakdown of the Bretton Woods system — the fixed-rate system or adjustable-peg system. In order to understand the forces now at work, I think it is necessary to have a clear notion of why the old system was abandoned.
