A chapter in The New Frontiers for Business Analysis, 1987, pp 158-161 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The sixteenth century was an epoch-making period in Europe. There was the renaissance movement, furthering the frontiers of art, culture and literature. Geniuses abounded in every sphere. In the field of scientific knowledge, Newton, Leibnitz, Descartes, and many others were uncovering mysteries of the universe, not just in theoretical knowledge but putting it into practical use. Then there were the discoveries of America and India. These new continents provided opportunities for experiment and exploration. The distant world suddenly became close, fathomed and charted. In the religious field the nonconformist movement against the Pope provided for the first time the questioning of established values and beliefs. The human race through the Europeans suddenly began to explore new frontiers and moved the horizon well beyond the limits that had been there since time immemorial. We were awakened, awakened to the new realities, new opportunities and new freedom. Mankind through this whole movement in art, culture, literature, scientific knowledge, religious questioning, exploration- in fact in all aspects of life- took his first major step.
