Abstract:
Abstract Since the mid-1970s there has been considerable debate concerning relations between the rich countries of the North and the poorer countries of the South. The Report of the Independent Commission on International Development Issues (The Brandt Commission), published early in 1980, has taken a broad look at many issues which affect North/South relations, and has put forward a range of policy proposals covering food, population, disarmament, trade, energy, transnational corporations, the world monetary order and development finance. A theme which runs through the entire Report is that of the mutual interests that are shared between North and South.
