Michael Skully

Chapter 4 in Financial Institutions and Markets in the South Pacific, 1987, pp 203-288 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Located approximately 1750 kilometres north-east of Australia and north-north-east of New Caledonia, the Republic of Vanuatu consists of an archipelago of some 80 islands spread over 850 kilometres in a ‘Y’ shape running roughly north to south. The bulk of the country’s 12,189 square kilometres land mass is made up by the eight larger islands of Efate, Espíritu Santo, Malakula, Tanna, Eromango, Aoba, Ambrym, and Pentecost. They also account for the bulk of the country’s 140,000 population.
