Abstract:
Abstract Insurance, one of the UK’s largest industries, is the City’s biggest employer and, in 1986, contributing £293m to the City’s foreign earnings, it became the UK’s second most important invisible exporter. The British insurance industry is comprised of five sectors: Firstly, there are insurance companies which may be specialized, concentrating on particular types of insurance such as life, accident, fire, marine; or they may be composite, carrying out all types of business (see Tables 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3).
