Venture Capital and the Board

Chapter 16 in Membership of the Board of Directors, 1988, pp 326-345 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The road to telecommunications leadership is already littered with the bleached bones of computer vendors who didn’t make it. The road to computer leadership is covered with the skeletons of start-ups, but also with limbs of large corporations who failed their entry into the market. Whichever way one looks, and in whichever industry, a similar story can be written. For the larger company it takes about three major failures to bring it down. But for the small firm, and more particularly the start-up, the first major failure may be the end.
