EC-ASEAN Interaction and Collaboration in a Multilateral Framework: the Economic Aspects

Chapter 15 in Western Europe and South-East Asia, 1997, pp 217-228 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Inter-regional economic relations between ASEAN and the EC have been fairly cordial thanks to both historical factors and the current pattern of inter-regional division of labour. Historically, some of the countries in the ASEAN grouping were colonies of countries which now belong to the EC. Post-colonial relationships have been carried forward in one form or another into the new geopolitical matrices. Economically, ASEAN and the EC have factor endowments which are different enough to permit a meaningful commercial relationship that is mutually profitable.
