International Convergence of Capital Adequacy Measurement and Standards
Peter Cooke
Chapter 18 in The Future of Financial Systems and Services, 1990, pp 310-335 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter sets out to describe the processes by which major banking nations have, since the early 1980s, edged towards an understanding on a common approach to capital measurement and an international capital standard. These efforts culminated in the publication, in July 1988, of a report by the Committee on Banking Regulations and Supervisory Practices of the Group of Ten major industrialised countries (‘The Basle Supervisors’ Committee’)1 which sets out an agreed common aproach to capital adequacy measurement and standards for international banks.
