Abstract: Abstract Several reasons explain why analysis of the services sector in centrally planned economies’ (CPEs) trade is difficult. In most CPEs the national accounting is based on the net material product system which excludes services. Information on the contribution of this sector to growth and national income is very limited. In CPEs the balance of payment statistics are usually not published and other public data for trade in services are very poor. At the time of writing, a quantitative study is hardly possible. Such an approach is totally excluded for countries as Bulgaria, the GDR and Rumania.
