Economic Policy and Foreign Trade in Austria: Relations with West and East
Jan Stankovsky
Chapter 6 in The Challenge of Simultaneous Economic Relations with East and West, 1990, pp 80-108 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The first part of this chapter contains a short description of the main institutions, targets, and instruments of Austria’s economic policy. This background section helps the reader to understand Austria’s foreign economic (trade) policy.1 Then the importance, development, and regulation of Austria’s trade with the East and West are discussed and compared. The term ‘East’ refers to the seven European CMEA countries (Eastern Europe, excluding the Soviet Union) while ‘West’ refers to Western Europe (the EC and EFTA).
