A chapter in Transport in a Free Market Economy, 1991, pp 115-118 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract My only professional contact with Canadian Transport came 20 years ago during a brief visit to the Canadian Transport Commission. At that time the Commission was still in the process of establishing its modus operandi, having been set up by the 1967 National Transport Act. It is interesting to learn from Trevor Heaver’s paper how much has changed in Canadian transport in the past 20 years. But, as he emphasises, both the degree and nature of that change is more easily understood by reference to Canadian history, and the political forces and geographical circumstances that shaped that history.
