Abstract:
Abstract A British director with one of the largest of the sogoshosha was asked to look to the future: “we aim to be more firmly rooted in the local economy, rather than being mostly an offshoot of the Tokyo business”, he explains. “The Japanese management feel a need to create a more European identity, and to integrate more thoroughly into the local scene.” In doing so, they are establishing a close relationship with a major oil company, which has a reputation for making a deliberate effort to bring forward locals to the highest level in their own countries, recognising that it is unwise to ignore local culture.
