Chapter 19 in The Exporter’s & Importer’s Handbook on Foreign Currencies, 1990, pp 84-87 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract In 1980 a survey was conducted on purchasing methods as part of manufacturing industry’s drive to cut costs and the surveyors noted the disproportionate increase in company profits which can result from improvements in purchasing tactics. Their findings showed that a 2 per cent reduction in the cost of purchases could yield a 10 per cent addition to profit. They also claimed that a 5 per cent reduction in material costs would have an equivalent effect on profitability as a 10 per cent increase in sales.
