The Financing of German Unity

Manfred Overhaus

Chapter 14 in Financial Strategies and Public Policies, 1993, pp 95-111 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract On 9 November 1989 a dream came true for the majority of Germans. The border that had cut Germany in two for forty years, and had even cost human lives, had been swept away. A people who had been incited to despise and distance themselves from their own compatriots for more than a generation now streamed into the West, driven by a wave of irrepressible joy. The whole world was soon familiar with the stirring scenes that ensued.
