Dynamics of European Industrial Restructuring

Chapter 1 in European Industrial Restructuring in the 1990s, 1992, pp 1-22 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract During the second half of the 1980s, the gloomy forecasts about the future of Western Europe slowly started giving way to modest hope, and ultimately to ‘Euro-optimism’. While the recession of the early eighties had left memorable scars, several years of uninterrupted economic growth, soaring stocks markets and improving East-West relationships had built the confidence that Europe might regain some of its lost economic power.
