Abstract: Abstract Hans Karl Emil von Mangoldt (1824–1868),1 one of the more important German economic theorists of the nineteenth century, had worked as a government official and as a journalist, before becoming a university teacher at Göttingen and at Freiburg. His first important work on the theory of profits under the title Die Lehre vom Unternehmergewinn was published in 1855.2 This was followed by his principal work, the Grundriss der Volkswirthschaftslehre, which appeared in 1863.3 Another work of his under the title Volkswirthschaftslehre was published in 1868.4
