Chapter 4 in The Regional Distribution of Foreign Manufacturing Investment in the UK, 1994, pp 59-86 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Earlier chapters have demonstrated the uneven nature of the regional distribution of recent FDI in Britain. The purpose of this chapter is to place that distribution within the context of the economic needs of regions, and to examine more closely the relationship between FDI and regional economic development. All British regions have sought, with varying degrees of success, to attract foreign manufacturing investment, and there is widespread recognition, particularly in a UK context, of the potential of FDI to reduce regional disparities and promote regional economic development (see, for example, Morris, 1987).
