Abstract: Abstract This chapter will explore the strategic expertise issues involved in the design and implementation of the UK banks’ EFTPoS1 (Electronic Funds Transfer at the Point of Sale) networks. The issues raised by this case are likely to remain relevant for the banks in future large-scale IT network design, concerning as they do fundamental aspects of organizational structure that influence decision-making.
