Multimedia Servers, Communications Solutions and their Software
Dimitris N. Chorafas
Chapter 6 in Protocols, Servers and Projects for Multimedia Realtime Systems, 1997, pp 140-165 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Chapter 1 and Chapter 5 have given plenty of practical examples to document why, in terms of business and of technology, we are seeing the beginnings of a convergence of computer networking and broadcasting. The business opportunity seems to be there but there is also a host of problems — one of them being skills. Few television engineers understand networking, expecially the notions of databases, shared media and interactivity. Then again, network engineers don’t know much about TV, interactive visualization and multimedia.
