Abstract: Abstract Who is likely to be involved in a crisis, disaster or emergency? Most of the general public simply need information about the scale of the crisis, and reassurance that they are safe. Others, however, have roles which involve them in the maintenance of essential services, or of protecting and helping the public. Some will find themselves catapulted into a situation that calls for skills and qualities which have never previously been tested. Not only will they be called upon to draw on these reserves, but they will be required to do so at a time when they are under the microscope of huge public interest.
