Abstract: Abstract Although the pre-acquisition phase is the most complicated stage of acquisition, it remains an essential element, for it serves as the foundation for the process that follows. The difficulty comes with making the decisions that underpin the process, not with developing a workable plan. Outlined below is a process for pre-acquisition planning and several key decisions an acquirer must make prior to buying the target: the objectives of the transaction the degree of integration which is most effective how to choose your advisors speed of implementation the levels of employee participation the role of target management in the new company integrating systems and employees addressing cultural differences.
