The Testing of Abilities and Personality

Neville Bain and Bill Mabey

Chapter 7 in The People Advantage, 1999, pp 105-131 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract In the first part of this book we emphasized the need to write a clear specification of the competencies or attributes required for a particular role. With regard to assessment, we acknowledged that the interview will always have a role to play but we agreed that it should be well structured against the specification and ideally supported by other methods. We noted the criticality of maximizing the validity of the total assessment method in terms of giving the organization a financial pay-back and that the research evidence supports the use of a multiple of methods in this respect as opposed to any one alone.
