Abstract: Abstract In the autumn of 1976, Mr Smith, treasurer of the Newcastle Investment Co. Ltd, was studying a list of proposals which had been proposed by his staff for capital investment in 1977. At the next meeting of the company’s directors, to be held late in October, Mr Smith would be asked to make recommendations as to which proposals should be adopted and how they should be financed.
