Social and Business Entertaining

Joan Moncrieff and Doreen Sharp

Chapter 17 in The Professional Secretary’s Handbook, 1980, pp 170-184 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The provision of food and drink, amusements, accommodation and transport all come under the heading of ‘Entertainment’ and the good Secretary/PA will be able to rise to any occasion and make whatever arrangements are necessary, smoothly and with self-confidence. Some secretaries, in the course of their own professional career or that of their chief, become regularly involved in many varied social duties, others may meet this side of business life less often. As social and business entertainment can be casual or formal, completely impromptu or the result of long-term planning, for one or two business colleagues or very many at a time, it can be a very interesting and enjoyable, although sometimes very hard-working, side of business life.
