Abstract: Abstract Since a major focus of the study is on top management control practices, the chief executive’s conception of control is a natural place to begin our examination of control. A variety of dimensions are examined: what the chief executive sees as the main objectives of control, what emphasis he gives to the different functions of the firm, what information and reports he receives and pays attention to, and when and how he exerts control. Responses on these items provide a useful initial overview of the different dimensions of the control system outlined in Chapter 2.
