Abstract:
Abstract It would be as well to state at the outset what is not to be considered in this paper. It is not our purpose to investigate technical progress as a movement of some boundary of known techniques, nor the sources of such innovation, nor the influence of market structure or market price on the pace or direction of innovation. We confine our investigation to those techniques actually in use in the relevant time-period and try to make some sense of the ways in which inputs and outputs have changed.
