A Macro Approach to Basic Needs in Nigeria

Frances Stewart

Chapter 7 in Planning to Meet Basic Needs, 1985, pp 131-169 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The BN of any economy is dependent on the macro-setting. Achievements in relation to particular BN and performance in the individual BN-sectors, as described in the last chapter, cannot be understood separately from it, nor can policy measures be properly devised without understanding the macro-context. Earlier, Chapter 2 suggested the need for a framework that would encompass three aspects: a production aspect describing resource allocation at the macro-level; an organisational aspect showing the organisational form in which this resource allocation takes place; and an incomes aspect describing the determinants of the distribution of income and of basic needs consumption among households.
