A Personal Postscript

Alastair Hetherington

Chapter 12 in News, Newspapers and Television, 1985, pp 292-298 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract While the last part of this book was being written, a student from a reputable polytechnic came to consult me. He had been thinking of a career in journalism but had concluded that newspaper journalists were corrupted by commercial ownership and broadcasters too much influenced by the government of the day. He was intelligent, and his words made me wonder what sort of teaching he had had and how much time he had spent reading newspapers, listening to radio news or watching television news.
