Going to Press and Going on Air

Chapter 3 in News, Newspapers and Television, 1985, pp 48-62 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract A regular routine is essential to the production of a newspaper or news programme, if there is not to be chaos. No less essential is frequent informal consultation, and many more decisions are taken outside the formal meetings or conferences than in them. These decisions depend on reading copy, viewing film or videotape, talking to reporters and specialists, weighing up alternatives and continuously exchanging ideas among the senior staff.
