Hayek and the Illusion of a Federal World

Edmund Dell

Chapter 10 in The Politics of Economic Interdependence, 1987, pp 158-167 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract There are those who question the value of national sovereignty in an interdependent world. Is the state really these days in a position to protect its own citizens? Whatever protection it can give, powerful competitive forces will still exist. Before acting against such competition, it will always have to calculate the dangers of reprisal by its rivals. In the international arena there are heavyweights and bullies. The danger of reprisal may therefore be very real.
