Chapter 4 in Economics for a Civilized Society, 1988, pp 69-95 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Armed with the information shown in Figure 4.1 drawn on a paper napkin and fortified with accompanying drinks, economist Arthur Laffer initiated the reshaping of American society with White House Chief of Staff Richard Cheney in 1974. The history which was made by Arthur Laffer’s napkin reveals some of the inadequacies of the conservative view of human nature, but its story also demonstrates the overwhelming influence that economic ideas can have on the nation.
